Did you formally learn how to write creatively or did you DIY-story writing?
I haven't taken any classes on it, if that's what you mean. But I've certainly read books on the topic, and made a study of books I like to understand what they have in common.
Considering your writing does invoke a level of visuals in my head. Which books would you recommend when it comes reading on the topic?
Most of the craft of writing books I read were more about structure than the prose itself. I'm fond of Alexandra Sokoloff's "screenwriter's tips for writing" mostly because it teaches analysis moreso than writing. Scott Alexander also has good nonfiction writing advice: https://slatestarcodex.com/2016/02/20/writing-advice/ and Jim Butcher has good fiction writing advice: https://blog.karenwoodward.org/2012/10/jim-butcher-on-writing.html and so does Ilona andrews but hers is more scattered: https://ilona-andrews.com/blog/hours-and-hours/ is one article you might find useful.
